WORKSHOPS FOR EVERYONE:

The Heart of Understanding : Appreciating Change With the Clarity of Meditation
This workshop will begin by explaining the clarity of mind and the changeable nature of everyday activity. Realizing how precious that makes each moment of our life can lead us to a feeling of exhilaration and commitment to making life meaningful. Instruction in a breathing, mindfulness and analytical meditation practice that can be used to focus the self in gratitude, openness and wisdom will be taught to all participants.

Using Buddhist Meditation Principles to Create a Personalized Devotional Practice
In this workshop you will learn the way to practice meditation for healing your body and mind. The 5 methods of meditation within the practice: Breathing, Movement, Visualization, Analyzing and Chanting/Mantra will be explained and practiced. The components of Refuge, Prostration, Confession/Repentance, Rejoicing, Requesting and Dedication will be illustrated as traditional ways of composing a practice. A discussion and question and answer period will follow that will be focused on ways to incorporate these techniques into a busy life by combining them into a devotional practice that is meaningful to your personal faith.

Buddhist and Psychological Principles of Conflict Resolution: Integrating Kindness and Compassion with Communication
This workshop focuses on the 3 psychological approaches to interacting with others: Pleasing, Asserting and Avoiding and how to broaden your style of communication to include all of these in a positive and flexible framework of compassionate and wise living. A Loving Kindness (Metta) meditation coupled with the Tibetan Buddhist practice of Taking and Giving (Tonglen) will be taught. This will assist the participant in the practice of viewing friends, enemies and strangers equally and will make interacting with others more effective.

Dealing with Negative Emotions Through Psychology and Meditation
What do you do when you are feeling angry, depressed or attached to an outcome? This workshop will explain negative emotion and offer both psychological and meditation remedies that are specific to each of these conditions. Participants will learn what happens in the mind that triggers these emotions, how they impact our well being, and how to refocus the mind to a place of understanding and relaxation for better interaction with others.

Understanding and Relieving the Suffering of Yourself and Others: Psychological and Buddhist Perspectives
This workshop explains the three types of suffering and the way to manage them, using  The Four Noble Truths of Buddhism and a meditation on the levels of suffering.  An understanding of how mood is impacted by thought and behavior psychologically will also be discussed. Finally, a meditation and explanation for a front generation visualization practice of the Medicine Buddha, along with his mantra, will be taught and practiced to be used for self healing and the healing of others.

Buddhist Basics
Understand the foundation of all Buddhist teachings by learning about the 4 Noble Truths, The Eightfold Path, The 6 Perfections, the Pratimoksha and Bodhisattva Vows and the need to integrate compassion and wisdom in interacting with the world through meditation. Concepts of Samsara, Nirvana, Karma, Grasping/Craving, and Afflictive Emotions will be explained. A brief explanation of the Tibetan Buddhist process (Lam Rim) that allows you to free yourself from negative emotional patterns and to reach a state of peace and contentment by understanding interdependence and emptiness will be the focus of this interactive workshop. Two short texts by Je Rinpoche Lama Tsong Khapa, The Foundation of All Good Qualities and The Three Principles of the Path will be used.
